PumpkinHouse Garden
An Oaxacan inspired courtyard and garden as urban oasis
A joint design and planting effort by Architect Tom Dolan and Jennifer Cooper, this magical garden compound accommodates a great variety of outdoor living experiences. The central courtyard, with its flower-flocked fountain, is an outdoor room in the Mexican/Spanish tradition. The warm terra cotta stucco wall, with “windows” of Chinese tiles, creates a backdrop for luscious tropical plants, including bananas, ginger, cannas, fan palm, and day lilies. Adjoining the courtyard is a long porch, perfect for eating breakfast and lunch outdoors. Beyond the arbor and its Alhambra-inspired tile pattern is the kitchen garden, providing home-grown vegetables year round.
